What should an Airbnb cleaning checklist include?

An Airbnb cleaning checklist should cover every room in the same order, every time, and end with photos. A fixed order means nothing gets skipped when the cleaner is in a hurry, and photos let you check the work without driving to the unit.

Print it, pin it inside a cupboard, and keep a copy on the cleaner's phone. The best checklist is the one your team can follow without asking you questions.

What is the room-by-room checklist?

Work from the back of the unit to the front door, and from top to bottom in each room.

  • Bedrooms. Strip and remake beds with fresh linen. Check under beds and in drawers for left items. Dust surfaces, wipe switches and handles, vacuum or mop.
  • Bathrooms. Clean toilet, shower, sink and mirror. Replace towels, bath mat and toiletries. Check drains for hair and the extractor fan for dust.
  • Kitchen. Empty the fridge, wipe shelves and door. Run or empty the dishwasher. Clean hob, microwave and sink. Restock coffee, tea, salt, dish soap and bin bags.
  • Living area. Straighten furniture and cushions. Wipe tables and the TV remote. Test the TV, Wi-Fi router and air conditioning.
  • Balcony and entrance. Sweep the balcony, wipe the door handle and check the lock or key box works.
  • Final walk. Take out all rubbish, set the AC to a comfortable temperature, take one photo per room and report any damage or missing items straight away.

How do you schedule a same-day turnover?

Plan a same-day turnover backwards from the check-in time, not forwards from check-out. Guests who leave late or arrive early are the normal case, so the schedule needs slack at the end, not in the middle.

Here is a typical window with an 11:00 check-out and a 15:00 check-in.

If a unit regularly needs more than three hours, send two cleaners, or move check-in later on that listing. Blocking the night costs less than a bad review.

How do you keep turnovers on time across many units?

Keep turnovers on time by fixing the parts that cause delays before the day starts. Most late turnovers come from the same few problems.

  1. Prepare linen sets the day before. Bagged by unit size, ready to carry in.
  2. Keep a stock cupboard in each building. Toiletries, coffee and cleaning products on site, not in a car.
  3. Assign units by building, not by cleaner preference. Travel time eats the buffer.
  4. Get a check-out confirmation. A message from the guest or a door lock log tells the cleaner when to go in.
  5. Report issues with a photo before leaving. A broken kettle found at 14:30 can still be replaced. One found by the guest becomes a review.

How do you check the quality of each clean?

Check quality with photos on every turnover and a physical inspection on a sample. Compare the photos against a reference set taken when the unit was set up, and walk through a few units each week without warning.

Track two numbers per cleaner: turnovers finished late and guest complaints about cleanliness. Those tell you who needs training well before your review score does.
